A kinder way to walk your dog! The patented Halti headcollar, designed by Dr. Roger Mugford, gives you total control of your dog. The soft nylon collar fits comfortably around its face without restricting its mouth. If the dog tries to pull or lunge forward, Halti transfers the forward motion into turning the head sideways. This immediately discourages the activity without any undue stress to the animal. Perfect for leash control training and as a permanent training collar for large or active dogs. Halti Headcollars are strong, long-wearing and washable. 1/2" W.Size: 0 (for dogs up to 10lbs)Size: 1 (for dogs 10-20lbs)Size: 2 (for dogs 20-45lbs)Size: 3 (for dogs 40-70lbs)Size: 4 (for dogs 64-100lbs)Size: 5 (for dogs 90+lbs)

My dog also chewed one of the straps, and the halti is now useless. Be aware that you have to closely watch your dog when you use the halti to make sure he is not chewing it. I was very surprised to find the halti ruined when I took it off of my dog because I was less than 3 feet away the entire time he wore it.

I have tried this little head halter on two different dogs, both female German Shepherds with particularly narrow muzzles.
The smaller dog hated wearing the Halti, if we ever stop walking for a moment she will throw herself on the ground, rubbing her face on the ground in an attempt to get the Halti off... but I found it was great for teaching her exactly what "heel" is supposed to mean. She will walk without pulling at all, right at my side, like a perfect angel. The problem was that the second the Halti came off, it was as though she had no clue how to walk nicely. I had to give up on the Halti and go back to the slip collar until she was trained. Now she walks on a regular flat collar, no need for the Halti anymore.
The bigger dog had dog aggression issues, and I was really hoping the Halti would be a "silver bullet" to end the aggression. I think the Halti made it worse, if anything. The dog did not like having anything on her face, she felt even more insecure and freaked out with it on. The Halti's design is supposed to pull the dog's mouth shut when it pulls against the leash, and restrict the dog from biting or barking. Well, it sort of does that.... it would not keep this dog from growling and barking at all. She would fight the Halti until it dug into the skin beneath her eye, rubbing the fur away and leaving red marks. She also figured out that if she just tenses her shoulder and neck muscles, she can still pull. I found this out the day she dragged me up to a poor woman walking her two unsuspecting dogs. After this incident I stopped using the Halti on my dog, switching to a Herm Sprenger prong collar, which is a very scary-looking metal device that is actually not cruel at all. It worked much better for this particular dog, she likes it better than the Halti, and I never have to worry about the possibility of her dragging me again.
This is a great little device for most dogs as a management tool. I don't think it's very useful as a training tool, and I think it can be dangerous in that it may give some dog owners a false sense of security. I have seen it do great things for some dogs, but it doesn't work for every dog out there.

We have purchased a great many collars, but even the gentle leader, which is a similar product, could not keep our big dogs at heel, but this did. The other reviewers are correct, dogs may chew through it. But that is true of most soft collars, and this is a much better choice than metal chokers. Simply keep an eye on your dog and you should be okay, because when the halti is taught, on walks, it's unbeatable. I rarely write reviews, but it's such a pleasure strolling with it, we thought it was helpful that we share.

My 10 month old lab chewed through this product within five minutes of his first walk. Thank god for the safety connected to the collar or who knows what would have happened.
The design has a strap that goes right over the side of the mouth area. As the dog opens and closes their mouth, the strap goes tight and slack. When the strap is slack, the dog can chew on it. I would say that this is a major design flaw on a product designed to restrain your dog while on a walk.
I wouldnt say that my dog is particularly bright so if he can figure this out within 5 minutes on his first walk I'm sure any dog can. If you are going to buy this, please make sure you attach the safety strap to the collar.

I've finally learned my lesson. Today my dog chewed through her third Halti-- all while they were on her! She chewed through the last one in under a minute while I had my back to her tending to my daughter. I haven't contacted the company about it, yet.
They work great but are NOT durable.
