MAY 2009 IMPROVED DESIGN - How's Your Dog Blinkers use Light Emitting Diodes (L.E.D.) technology, now considered "the greatest invention in lighting since Edison's light bulb in 1879". LEDs are constructed from tiny solid-state chips similar to those used in computers. These chips directly convert electricity to light without the use of a filament or glass bulb. LEDs are rapidly replacing light bulbs in a variety of high reliability applications, including traffic lights, warning signs and emergency exit signs.

"Great Product to protect my special escape artist" 2010-01-31
By T. Scruggs (Chicago, IL)
I have a very cunning Shihpoo who takes advantage of any opportunity to escape and go for a tour of the neighborhood. This happened again recently, late at night while we were renting a vacation house in Florida. It was very scary as he disappeared into the night's shadows. I caught him, thankfully. His old blinker had come apart and I hadn't gotten around to finding a replacement so I searched around on the internet and found the best deal from How's your Dog via Amazon.

The blinkers are bright and make him visible for a long way. When I am going outside now at night I turn his blinker on before I leave just in case he tries to slip by me. Or when I'm taking him for a walk, his blinker is always on, just in case. I try to remember to tighten it up every so often if I haven't used it, just so it doesn't gradually unscrew itself and fall apart.

One little thing I would have done differently and it's a simple law of physics. Blue light has the shortest wave length while red light has the highest. This is why tail lights are red. You can see them the farthest. So if I had given it much thought I would have ordered the red and white. But the blue and white work just fine for my purposes too.

Recently a friend was over during a bad storm and the light was out on her bike. Her bike wouldn't fit in my car. I remembered I had some of these, so we turned them on, fastened a few on her bike and she got home safely. At least I felt better about her being on the streets during the storm.

"LED Dog Blinkies" 2010-01-30
By W. Wilkins (San Jose, CA USA)
Nice product. Only put them on your pet when you're going out at night. If you leave them on your pet all of the time, then the LED part eventually gets unscrewed and falls off and gets lost.

"POOR FUNCTION" 2010-01-23
By Clifford A. Crawford (Detroit, Mi United States)
THIS PRODUCT ALTHOUGH SIMILAR IN APPERANCE TO ANOTHER RELIABLE BRAND, IS UNEQUIVIOCAL JUNK. THESE UNITS FUNCTIONED POORLY FROM DAY ONE. 1. DIFFICULTY TO TURN OFF SECONDARY TO LACK OF SWITCH. 2. VERY SOFT METAL CLIP WHICH DEFORMS WITH SLIGHTEST PRESSURE. 3. POOR LIFESPAN OF BATTERY WHICH RESULTS IN DIMINISHED INTENSITY OF LAMP. SAVE YOUR MONEY AND LOOK FOR WELL CONSTRUCTED ALTERNATIVE BRAND.

"Great but took some work to get there" 2010-01-10
By CravenAMacintosh (Seattle, Wa USA)
When they're on, they're quite bright and do the job admirably. I did have a problem with all 5 (and still do with a couple of them) initially in getting them to come on. There was no instructions that I recall but it's not hard to figure out how to use them. They work by way of having a stack of small watch type batteries in the 'barrel' and one turns the outside piece (it's threaded) clockwise or counterclockwise to make or break the batteries' contacts. I couldn't get them to come on reliably and since I was giving three of five away as gifts for Christmas I wanted to make sure they worked. What I ended up having to do was to open them entirely and remove a small gasket from the very bottom. I don't know but I think that the gasket, which was made of a soft silicone type material, would crush irregularly and the contact just wasn't 'solid'. Makes me wonder about the water tightness of them now, but so far so good as my little puppies go through wet grass. Given the price they probably are expendable. I'm glad to have them and now that I have them working reliably would do something similar again. The shipping and all were done well. Given the no instructions and the problem I noted, I'll give a 4 star.

"Happy Owner, Happy Dog" 2009-11-04
By Timothy J. Wright (Pittsburgh PA)
I purchased these 5 at a time because honestly they are expendable. Nice, just not a big ticket item. My dog Christopher weighs 70 LBS but when we walk in the park more often than not he is scenting (head and neck carried very low) and moving at a good rate of speed. Any LED that clips on to his collar tends to frequently drag on the ground and will only last so long.

Another reviewer, same product only one at a time gave it a horrible review because he/she did not like the frequency of the strobe? I don't know what to say about that. It flashes so quickly to me it seems as if it is almost constantly on. Because it is motion sensitive (to prolong battery life?) If Christopher goes "on point" or otherwise freezes the LED light may cease for a moment, then quickly goes back on. It not a problem in any way.

One turns on the device by giving the entire lower portion a half turn and turns it off the same way. It is very safe and easy but does require two hands. We have also tested it < 30F this morning and it works just fine.

As small and light weight as the device is it seems very high quality and puts out ample light visible for a very good distance. Perhaps it may also provide Christopher a little illumination, stuck under his chin the light in no way bothers him. But at his tender age, 30 months, I have no reason to think he needs "headlights". It may however give the park rabbits a more sporting chance.

As much as Christopher may want to catch a rabbit, I am not sure what I would do with such a treasure.

Because we often finish our 3 mile walk before dawn, and the local Pet Smart and Pet Co were fresh out of LED collar tags I tried shopping on line. We have used up, worn out, and lost many LED collar tags before this. This was not only the least expensive LED tag but also the best quality and smallest I have ever found.

Christopher gives it 5/5 paws.
