I'm surprised by all of the negative reviews -- my cat's eyes and ears perked up the moment I got the feather toy out of the package, and within 10 minutes of having the scratcher put together, she was using that as well. This leads me to believe the obvious: some cats love it; others don't. But as with any cat toy, you won't really know which category your cat falls into until you get this in front of them.
I haven't had any problems with tipping -- and my cat is pretty big -- but I've only had it a week, so we'll see if that changes. It does skid somewhat when she plays with the feather toy, but that's to be expected. Bit annoyed with the slots for the toy: there are 3-4 holes to choose from, but it actually only fits into one.
The jury is still out on whether or not this actually files her nails, which was the reason I got this in the first place. She's used it a few times and while her nails are shorter, they seem to also be sharper. I'm going to give it a couple more weeks and will update this review accordingly.

I bought one set (two boards) through their site. It seems like a nifty idea but I have four cats and have only seen one cat using it and that is only immediately after putting some catnip on it. The other cats get on top of it and roll around after applying catnip but the rest of the time they ignore it. I haven't had the problems of it tipping over and my cats are pretty big. I think the problem is that the texture of the board is very stiff and is probably an extremely unpleasant surface for them to claw. They just DON'T want to dig their claws into the thing.
All of them love the toy and still play with it after having the board for about a month but $40.00 is pretty expensive for two little furry toys.

Cat loved it for 15 minutes....then pulled off feather and played with that for another 15 minutes. Now he just walks past and ignores everything! Still scratching the woodwork...

I know that a lot of people have given this product bad reviews, so I was really hesitant about buying. However, the idea of not having to tackle my 17 pound cat down to trim his nails was way too tempting. I have a very large cat (17 lbs) and a small cat (6 lbs). The second that I put this scratching board on the ground, my big cat started scratching. He LOVES it. It hasn't tipped over, or even really moved while he is using it. My smaller cat really loves the little toy that comes with it, which is soft and has a bell. She will bat at the toy but hasn't really scratched much. However, her lack of interest may only be that the larger cat has claimed this as his toy.
The toy has a plastic base, which looks flimsy from close up, but actually isn't. It has a deep brown "wood" colored base and actually seems sort of classy from any distance (at least compared to the corrugated cardboard panel in a box that it replaced). I also got a free little cat brush with the order, which my big cat, who is very furry and sheddy, really likes.
I ordered through the actual company's website, which seemed a bit sketchy, so I had my fingers crossed for no incidents. Luckily, there were no issues. I ordered one scratching board and got my second one for free. Also, the whole order took less than a week to arrive at my door.
As for the promise to manicure my cat's nails... it's hard to tell at this point. Honestly, however, I am just happy that I found a scratching board that he likes that doesn't leave a trail of shredded cardboard bits everywhere.

I have five cats and none of them will use the Emery Cat. They liked the feather toy but it did not entice them to use the product. Now I am on the verge of discarding it.
