I can get much closer than with traditional trimmers. My 8 month old mutt was a little scared of it at first but I've been keeping up with it weekly. She doesn't love it, but she tolerates it. My cork floor is easily scratched and she's hasn't put a mark on it since I've started using this regularly. And it pays for itself in three weeks if you were paying the $11 I was per grinding service at PetSmart.

I have a miniature poodle who has been extremely difficult when it comes to nail trimming. I tried everything to get Molly calmed down from giving her calming medication, treats, to rubbing her feet daily, etc. but none of these methods worked. I ended up having professionals clipped those nails and I knew what an ordeal Molly must have had during those episodes. I bought the Oster Nail Grinder and tried it on Molly, at first she was very nervous about it but after securing feet, I turned up the speed and the grinder went to work. It took less than eight minutes to get all 16 toes trimmed! The impossible finally became possible! I was absolutely amazed!

The oster nail grinder is FANTASTIC. It works wonders. We have 7 labs and they don't mind me using the grinder on them. They hated having their nails cut. The dogs are ok with the grinder.

Was considering a battery powered unit but decided that was too bulky to handle easily. This is very easy to hold and manipulate in close quarders. Has variable speed, plenty of power (1 amp motor) and a very long (maybe 10') cord. Very convenient. The transformer is really bulky and probably won't stay in the wall receptical, so use a short extention cord to power it. The most important thing is to get the animal used to it long before trying to actually grind the nails. This may take several days getting closer and closer to actually grinding in "baby steps". Get dog used to have his paws "played with" before starting the long road to actually trimming the nails. There is no guard on the grinding wheel so care must be used not to snag his hair (or tail, in my case). I believe the guard would interfere with your vision in most cases. Replacement sanding discs are available in pks. of five at Lowes and have a reasonable price. The carrying case is nice and as a whole, a very cool unit with enough power to actually do the job. Just be very, very careful when grinding because the nail will get extremely hot very quickly. Just keep in mind what it feels like to the dog - buzzing, vibrating, noise, etc. Gradually getting the dog used to it is most important thing. My #1 dog doesn't care at all, the other one bites the grinder. Lots of work left for him.

this machine is much more powerful than the other kind i had. it means four paws get done in about the same time as two could be finished before. while it makes a little more noise than my other one, it spins much faster and pudgie tolerates it very well. she certainly prefers being done more quickly!
