Great for cats and dogs, this fully automatic pet feeder features a tough plastic base that holds a food reservoir for food "on demand." The electronic pet feeder's simple, programmable electronics prompt the feeder to dispense portions from 1/4 to 2 cups at three selected times per day. The unit can be set to meet scheduled feeding times and amounts when caretakers are away, but it is not meant to replace human care--please be sure someone still visits the pet daily. The unit's hopper holds 5 pounds of food and accommodates a full range of dry food sizes, shapes, and types. The feeding bowl is removable for easy cleaning. Required batteries, which are not included, sustain a long battery life of six months. One-year limited warranty.

My cat is obsessed with food and was constantly bugging my husband and myself to feed him every time we went into the kitchen. We thought an automatic food dispenser would be great. It took him a few days to get used to the fact that we weren't going to feed him, but now he knows not to bug us. He kind of knows the times that it is set for. He also goes sprinting for the food the second he hears it drop.
The only thing that I wish it could do is dispense more meals, so I can do more frequent smaller meals through out the day. He tends to binge and purge, but other than that, this is perfect!

The first automatic feeder I received from Amazon didn't work right out of the box. I returned it and received a different one. I wish I had just taken a refund instead. All the negative reviews you've read about this product are totally true. Yes, your cats will figure out the trick immediately after the first feeding and will be able to reach in and dispense their own food, since there's not protective grating of any kind. No, it does not dispense the correct amount. Ours has been feeding half of what it should be, which is a serious problem. It does NOT follow the correct programming times. Rather, it seems to dispense at random times. I don't understand how something so simple could work so poorly, and cost so much. And since I have now had TWO malfunctioning units, I am sure it is of poor quality/design, as opposed to a single faulty unit. This one will probably get sent back, too.

I hoped the Le Bistro would be a great solution to my cat's over-eating problems. The digital display is hard to see but workable to program. It was easy to obtain the proper A/C wall adapter. Unfortunately the clear food reservoir tormented my fat cat by keeping the food always in view. I thought about spray painting it opaque. However, within three days my cat discovered that she could get unlimited food releases by pawing at the release valve. Therefore I didn't have to worry that the battery won't override and operate the device in the event of a wall power failure. My cat can get food from it at will without waiting for a scheduled feeding or portion control. Dogs are likely not so agile to do this but I am only guessing at that. I will experiment with duct taping the food shoot as I have seen others do. I didn't expect to be engineering my own solution. I still am looking for another cat-proof feeder.

These feeders are excellent. I've got two and have synced up the clocks so that they distribute at the same times and each cat can eat at the same time. Despite the cost, I'm already very happy with the the performance and they've already paid for themselves in a couple of 3-day trips where I didn't have to take the cats to the Kitty Lodge.
- The controls are very easy to set up for 1-3 feedings per day in 1/4 cup increments.
- very obvious low battery light (be nice if unite included an a/c adapter)
- I've measured a couple of food distibutions and the 1/4 cup amount seems very precise.
There are only a couple of drawbacks, but not so major that I've got buyer's remorse...
- units are only in 1/4 cup increments and I like to feed my two 10-pound cats a little less than 3/4 of a cup each day of a high-quality, high-protein food. That means they get a little bit more than I'd like, but not too much. I've gotten into the habit of taking back any left over food after a feeding (If I'm here) and putting it back in the hopper.
- The feeder regularly drops a little extra food 5-15 minutes after the main 1/4 cup distribution. It's not much, but seems to happen frequently.
Based on the above, I may experiment with just two auto feedings per day and a light snack before bed.

The device is a good idea, but you need a tech guy to program it. Would have liked a smaller size. Once programmed and filled, it works well.
